  • Multi-story Office Building

Background

The 10-story, 302,000 square foot, multi-tenant office building was clad with aluminum and glass curtain wall, with stone cladding. We were retained to review the 100% construction documents for the vertical enclosure, the plaza decks and the roof.

Services Provided

Rimkus performed an in-depth review of the construction drawings and specifications, with a particular focus on the potential for moisture intrusion problems. The integration of the glass and aluminum curtain wall with stone cladding was critical. Details were closely scrutinized for the consistency and termination of flashings, their integration into adjacent components, and paths for moisture to exit the systems. Additionally, the proposed construction was evaluated for constructability to mitigate potential difficulties in executing the work in the field.

Subsequent to the review of the construction documents, Rimkus reviewed the aluminum curtain wall shop drawings for a more fine-grained analysis of the integration with adjacent details.

Additional assignments included the observation of testing of curtain wall mockups at the fabricator’s plant and, as construction progressed, Rimkus made periodic field inspections to assess whether the work-in-place conformed to recommendations.
