Background

Mickey Parker has broad experience in all aspects of contract negotiation, planning, design, and construction. His work focused on performing forensic evaluations of buildings, preparing structural engineering designs, providing roofing consultant services, and providing building envelope consulting services. He has been involved in projects including agricultural, single-family, multi-family, commercial, retail, medical, hospitality, assembly, industrial, emergency services, and military facilities. These projects have involved clients including, but not limited to public agencies, private companies, construction companies, and architectural firms. The projects ranged in size from small offices to a 947,000 square foot hospital with a budget of over $650 million.

Mickey’s structural design experience included wood (light frame and timber), light gage steel, structural steel, masonry, and reinforced steel. In a more traditional civil engineering role, Mickey designed multiple small, decentralized, waste water treatment facilities, prepared site plans for commercial developments and residential developments, designed storm water management systems, and prepared storm water pollution prevention plans. In the realm of building envelope, Mickey has been the engineer of record on numerous reroofing projects for public entities, and he has provided building envelope consulting services (including field performance testing) for projects in the private, public, medical, and military environments.

When buildings were either damaged or were performing poorly, Mickey performed field investigations on buildings ranging from agricultural buildings, to 100+ year old municipal buildings, to new high rise hospitality buildings. The primary focus of many of these investigations was to determine the reason(s) that the building envelope was not performing as it was intended or the extent of damage to the building envelope related to a wide variety of causes. These projects involved in-depth understandings of building code compliance, construction defects, foundation movement, construction contractual disputes, structural failures, building envelope water intrusion, post-fire structural issues, vibration effects resulting from blasting, earthquakes, and construction equipment, storm and flood damage, hail damage, damage from high winds, vehicle impact to buildings, and plumbing leaks.

In addition to Mickey's new construction design and building envelope consulting experience, he also has extensive experience in the preparation of construction and bidding documents necessary for the restoration and/or rehabilitation of existing properties. These services also include providing construction administration services such as supervising bidding phase, reviewing bids, recommending a contractor, organizing regular project meetings, providing construction quality assurance observations & associated reports, and presiding of the project close-out. Mickey has served as a roofing consultant for over 18 years and has extensive experience in shingle, metal, spray polyurethane foam, shake, slate, tile, built-up, and single-ply (EPDM, TPO, PVC) roofing systems.

  • Boys and Girls Club, Smyrna, Tennessee: This project included reinforced masonry, reinforced concrete, structural steel, and light gage steel.
  • 440 Parkway Commercial Buildings, Nashville, Tennessee: This project included structural steel, open web steel joists, and reinforced masonry.
  • Multiple rehabilitation projects of 60+ year old buildings for Commercial Industrial Real Estate Association in Nashville, Tennessee. The projects included the Edgehill Villages and the 2300 Charlotte Pike building.: These projects included masonry, open web steel joists, light wood framing, foundation restoration, reinforced concrete, and structural steel.
  • North Campus Apartments, Murfreesboro, Tennessee: This project utilized light wood framing for a three (3) story apartment building over a reinforced concrete slab-on-grade foundation system.
  • Word and Spirit Church, Mount Juliet, Tennessee: This project utilized insulated concrete forms.
  • Williams Funeral Home Gazebo, Columbia, Tennessee: This project combined structural steel and heavy timber construction.
  • Rainbow Pediatrics, Clarksville, Tennessee: This project included structural steel, open web steel joists, and reinforced concrete.
  • Robertson County 911 Facility, Springfield, Tennessee: This project was a reinforced concrete structure designed to withstand a direct hit from an F-5 tornado.
  • Expansion of the Cracker Barrel Training Facility, Lebanon, TN: This project included the use of structural steel and laminated timbers.
  • First Commerce Bank, Lewisburg, Tennessee: This project included structural steel, open web steel joists, and reinforced concrete.
  • Clubhouse for the Ashwood Cove Condominiums, Murfreesboro, Tennessee: This building utilized light wood framing and reinforced concrete.
  • Designed numerous reinforced concrete foundation systems for pre-engineered metal buildings.

Civil Engineering Projects

  • The Design and Construction of 11 decentralized waste water treatment facilities in Rutherford County, Tennessee: These projects utilized septic tank effluent pumps, pressurized sewer mains, sand filtration, ultraviolet sterilization, and both spray and drip irrigation for the treated effluent.
  • Franklin Printing, Murfreesboro, Tennessee: Constructing an addition to an existing building required the preparation of a new site plan.
  • Elite Lawn and Landscape, Murfreesboro, Tennessee: A site plan was required for the development of a landscaping business.
  • Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) for multiple waterfront residential developments near Smithville, Tennessee.

  • Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Replacement (USACE), Ft. Hood, Texas: This project included design review, field quality assurance observations, participation in numerous pre-construction conferences, whole building air leakage testing, infrared evaluation of newly installed roofing systems, water leakage testing of curtain wall, ribbon, and punched windows.
  • Army Reserve Center (USACE), Denton, Texas: This project included design review, quality assurance observations, and whole building air leakage testing.

  • Ralph Carr Colorado Judicial Center, Denver, Colorado: This project included field performance testing of the 60+ foot diameter glass dome atop the entry rotunda.
  • Forest Park Medical Center, Southlake, Texas: The field performance testing include whole building air-barrier testing.
  • Ft. Carson Commissary (USACE), Colorado Springs, Colorado: The field performance testing include whole building air-barrier testing.
  • United States Air Force Academy, Vandenberg Hall Renovations, Colorado Springs, Colorado: The field performance testing on this project included testing recently installed operable window units for water and air leakage.

  • Lookout Ridge Apartments, Harker Heights, Texas: This project included the preparation of remediation plans for a 3-story apartment building that was damaged by fire.
